MORE ART SPROUTS UP AT CITY HALL

Orlando City Hall, home of the $460,000 glass-and-steel tower often referred to derisively as the asparagus, has new outdoor art.

But before you start complaining, realize this: It was free.

Four sculptures - each about the size of a short filing cabinet - adorn the front lawn of 400 S. Orange Ave., compliments of University of Central Florida Professor Johann Eyfells.

Elevated several feet off the ground by steel pilings, the aluminum, bronze and copper pieces are part of Mayor Glenda Hood's effort to increase community awareness of visual arts.

``This is one of the ways we can do it,'' said Frank Holt, the city's public art coordinator.

The pieces likely will be on display through the end of 1999.
